Built in 1884, the Alpine Inn is the only historic hotel in Hill City.  All four of our beautiful rooms are above our acclaimed restaurant. Located right on Main Street, it is a perfect location to walk anywhere in Hill City.

A gorgeous room filled with old world charm

Up our beautiful staircase Room Three is the first room on the right side and is the owner’s favorite room! When you open the door you’re welcomed with the warmth of rich red and neutral tones. Room Three features a nice sitting area with coffee station and small fridge. Enjoy old world charm and great morning sun. It has a pillow top queen size bed with soft luxurious linens and your spacious PRIVATE BATHROOM has a large vanity and a tub/shower and is two steps across the hall. We have soft cuddly bathrobes provided for your convenience.

These two bedrooms are perfect for four people

The first bedroom in Room Six is decorated in lush green tones and has an amazing queen size pillow top bed that you won’t want to leave in the morning. The second bedroom in Room Six has the same comfortable queen-size pillow top bed with soft luxurious linens and decorated in rich red tones. Each bedroom has its own TV and are separated by a sitting area with chairs which serves as a great spot for morning coffee and warm early morning sunlight. The private bathroom is beautiful with an amazing tile shower. Room Six also has a coffee station, small fridge and large antique armoire for clothing for your convenience.

Old west victorian charm

As you walk onto the carpet of moss green of Room Nine you’ll feel transported back in time to an era of old west Victorian charm. Room Nine features a comfortable queen size pillow top bed with soft luxurious linens. The spacious sitting area has a coffee station and small fridge. The TV can be adjusted to watch from either the sitting area or while lounging in bed.  It has a beautiful private bathroom with the walk-in tile shower to soothe you after a long hike in the beautiful black hills.

Cozy, Red Velvet Comfort

When you enter Room Twelve, at the end of our beautiful hallway, the first thing you want to do sink into the beautiful red velvet sofa. Room Twelve features a queen size pillow top bed with soft luxurious linens, a coffee station and a small fridge. The private bathroom has a beautiful tiled shower. While this room is a little smaller than our others, it is just as beautiful as all the other rooms and makes your stay a bit cozy.

Meet the Alpine Family

The staff of the Harney Peak Hotel, now the home of the Alpine Inn, has sought to accommodate its guests for more than a century. Built in 1886, this historic landmark, with its reputation for fine dining, became the showplace of Hill City. Family owned & operated for over 3 decades, the Alpine Inn carries on this tradition.

The Alpine Inn has been noted in several national & international publications for its friendly, homey atmosphere steeped in mellow old world charm and its delicious meals. The luncheon menu boasts both ethnic European and contemporary dishes. The famous streamlined evening menu features filet mignon and homemade desserts that are just as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as the pallet!

On the corner of Elm & Main Street in the heart of the Black Hills Stands this majestic portal to the past. We strive to make your visit to our corner of the world a pleasant memory. We are located at 133 Main Street in downtown Hill City, SD. Parking is available on the street or behind our building.

Terms & Conditions

  • We do not accept credit cards, cash or check only.
  • No pets allowed.
  • All rooms are on the second floor and we do not have an elevator.
  • Check-in is at 3:00pm. If you will be arriving after 9:00pm please contact us.
  • Check-out time is at 10:30am.
  • Parking is available behind the building or on a side street.
